Collective action on sustainability ‘essential’, says Cascale

Cascale, the non-profit alliance formerly known as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, has urged policymakers and stakeholders to embrace collaboration in order to tackle sustainability challenges.

Releasing the group’s 2024 policy priorities, Elisabeth von Reitzenstein, senior director of public affairs at Cascale, commented “As we face mounting environmental and social challenges, collective action is essential to achieve a more sustainable future.

“Through these policy priorities, we call on policymakers to work hand-in-hand with industry stakeholders to create a level playing field and foster innovation that benefits both people and the planet.”

‘A unique opportunity’

Cascale said that 2024 presents a ‘unique opportunity’ for industry leaders to shape policy and decision making given the key elections taking place in India, Pakistan, the US, the UK, and within the European Parliament.

Its strategic plan focuses on three core impact goals: combating climate change, ensuring decent work for all, and shaping a nature-positive future. Through its strategic initiatives, Cascale aims to make meaningful contributions to sustainability and social responsibility while driving positive change in the communities and environments in which it operates, it said.

Policy priorities

The group’s 2024 policy priorities include:

  • Harmonising global regulatory frameworks
  • Fostering collaborative partnerships
  • Driving change through data collection
  • Promoting low-carbon tech and a sustainable, just, and fair energy transition
  • Promoting responsible business and purchasing practices
  • Streamlining circular design practices.
  • Establishing a common framework for green claims
  • Harmonising waste mitigation efforts

Cascale is actively engaged at the EU level through its partnership with the Policy Hub, an initiative that brings together the clothing, apparel and footwear industries to advocate for policies that promote circular practices.

Elsewhere, Cascale plans to extend its collaborative efforts by working with members of its global Public Affairs Strategic Council to develop region-specific policy recommendations for the Asia-Pacific and US regions. [Main photo taken from Cascale.org]
