The newly-appointed co-chairs of The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), Tesco CEO Ken Murphy and PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta, have identified deforestation, plastic waste, human rights in the supply chain, employee wellbeing and the climate transition as among the key priorities for their two-year tenure.

Murphy and Laguarta were named as the new CGF co-chairs at the Forum’s Global Summit, which wrapped up in Amsterdam today (13 June). They succeed Frans Muller, president and CEO of Ahold Delhaize, and Dirk Van de Put, chairman and CEO of Mondelēz International, in the roles.

‘Ambitious goals’

“I’m delighted to welcome Ken and Ramon to their role within the CGF over the next two years,” commented CGF managing director Wai-Chan Chan. “I know their ambitious goals for the industry, combined with their commitment to delivering on urgent challenges, will help us to ensure an even greater combined positive impact.”

During their tenure, the co-chairs priorities will include expanding CGF’s global and regional reach, enhancing knowledge sharing, supporting the development of future leaders, and sharpening the focus of the CGF’s Coalitions of Action in tackling issues like climate transition, deforestation, plastics, human rights, and employee wellbeing – all the time while meeting rising consumer expectations and navigating disruptive market environments.

‘A positive role’

“Over the next two years, I’m committed to growing our reach and relevance locally, while expanding our network globally,” Murphy commented. “In a fast paced consumer environment, the CGF can play a positive role for members large and small, with pre-competitive knowledge sharing on the big issues.”

Laguarta added that he “strongly supports” the CGF mission of Better Lives through Better Business, adding that over the next two years, he is looking forward to “helping the CGF deliver positive impact on people and the planet, while continuing to strengthen the Global Food Safety Initiative.

“I am eager for the CGF to continue expanding its local engagement in North America, Europe, Latin America, China, and Japan, while ensuring they meet members’ regional needs and recruit new members.”

The Consumer Goods Forum unites CEOs from more than 400 member companies across 70 countries. The new co-chairs were appointed by the CGF’s Board of Directors, which comprises more than 50 of the world’s top FMCG CEOs. Read more here.
