83% of Forest Positive Coalition members have made progress on commitments

Some 83% of members of The Consumer Goods Forum‘s Forest Positive Coalition have made progress on their deforestation– and conversion-free (DCF) commitments, a new report by the coalition has found.

According to the Forest Positive Coalition’s 2024 Highlights Report, significant progress has been made with regard to DCF efforts in palm oil (83%), soy (75%), beef (75%), and paper, pulp, and fibre-based packaging (62%).

In addition, transparency has also improved, with 74% of coalition members disclosing performance against key KPIs, up from 68% in 2023.

According to the CGF, while these achievements are welcome, there are still challenges to overcome, particularly in addressing issues such as indirect cattle suppliers and embedded soy in supply chains.

‘Transparency, accountability and collaboration’

“Forests are essential for maintaining life on Earth. Greater transparency, accountability, and collaboration are critical to driving the pace and scale of change needed – and this report clearly demonstrates the measurable progress we are making,” commented Wai-Chan Chan, managing director of The Consumer Goods Forum.

Unveiling the report, the coalition said that collaboration is a key cornerstone of its efforts – in 2024, it engaged with over 250 stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and business leaders, while also expanding its landscape initiatives, supporting 26 active projects focused on ecosystem conservation and restoration, while also supporting local communities.

Looking ahead, the coalition has pledged to scale successful initiatives and traceability technologies, deepen partnerships with stakeholders, and continue addressing the complex challenges within supply chains.

‘The journey toward deforestation- and conversion-free supply chains is far from over, but together, we can drive systemic change, ensuring global supply chains actively contribute to forest conservation and ecosystem restoration,’ it noted.

The Forest Positive Coalition counts 21 of the world’s largest retailers and manufacturers among its members, and is sponsored at board level by Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour and Noel Wallace, chairman, president and CEO of Colgate-Palmolive. Read more here.
