The COP30 presidency has published its executive report, following last November’s UN Climate Change Conference in Brazil, outlining how it plans to ‘sustain momentum for global climate action’ in the months ahead.
According to the presidency, COP30 in Bélem was a ‘decisive moment for international climate cooperation’, resulting in the adoption of 56 decisions by consensus, reaffirming parties’ commitment to advancing climate action.
As it notes, COP30 should not just be seen as a standalone event, but part of an ongoing global effort to translate climate commitments into real-world actions.
Continued efforts
Central to the presidency’s next phase of efforts is the COP30 Presidency Roadmap for Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels in a Just, Orderly and Equitable Manner, which will seek to compile evidence, identify opportunities, and support international dialogue on pathways for the fossil fuel transition.
In addition, the COP 30 Presidency Roadmap for Halting and Reversing Deforestation and Forest Degradation by 2030 will reinforce the role of forests in climate action and sustainable development.
The report also highlights continued efforts to mobilise climate finance according to the Baku to Belém Roadmap, which aims to unlock $1.3 trillion to support the goals of the Paris Agreement, particularly in developing countries.
‘Sustain momentum’
“As we prepare for the next rounds of dialogue and for close collaboration on the road to Antalya [the location for COP31], we invite you to read this report not only as a record of what has been achieved, but also as a call to sustain momentum, honour our shared responsibilities, and carry forward the spirit of ‘mutirão‘ that Belém inspired,” commented André Corrêa do Lago, COP30 President, and Ana Toni, COP30 CEO.
“The decisions adopted at the conference should serve as catalysts for economic transformation, for building more resilient societies, and for restoring ecosystems. The journey continues – and it will require the commitment of us all.” Read more here. [Photo: Raimundo Pacco/COP30]
