Some 94.4% of new private cars registered in Denmark in February were electric vehicles, a new record high, according to new data from Mobility Denmark.
Overall, some 9,736 electric cars were registered during the month, corresponding to a market share of 81.6%, the data showed.
Mobility Denmark attributed the growth to increased consumer demand for EVs, as well as growing political momentum behind the greening of the car fleet.
‘A new level of electrification’
“The popularity of electric cars has continued into 2026 to the extent that we have reached a new level of electrification of car sales,” commented Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark.
“The vast majority of consumers now choose an electric car when they need a new car. This is supported by the fact that it continues to be economically attractive to choose green, as the reduced registration tax on electric cars has been maintained in 2026. How the framework is set up in the future will be crucial for further development.”
Overall, some 11,933 new passenger cars were registered in Denmark in February, an increase of 2.8% on the corresponding month the previous year. The total number of new registrations has risen by 10.2% in the first two months of the year.
“We are off to a good start in 2026, with Danes’ demand for new cars remaining strong on top of the good results from last year,” Rørvig added. “This provides a good starting point for the development of the car fleet.”
The most-registered models in February included the Toyota bZ4X, Skoda Elroq, Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq iV at 467, and Audi Q4 e-tron.
