The second edition of Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec attracted more than 8,800 visitors to the Romexpo exhibition complex in Bucharest earlier this month.

The 2025 edition, which took place from 9-11 April, featured a new format that integrated the Urban Smart Expo concept, with the focus on four sectors essential for sustainable communities: energy, waste, water, and smart cities.

Covering some 15,000 square metres, the event showcased thousands of innovative solutions and equipment from more than 500 brands, in areas such as renewable energy production, smart waste collection and recycling, water management, energy efficiency, and the digitisation of public services.

Having doubled in size since the first edition, held in 2024, Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec played host to 200 companies from 15 countries, while national pavilions also featured, with representations from China, Switzerland, and Poland.

Debates and discussions

It also played host to a variety of presentations, panels, and debates on topics both of local and European interest, including EU legislative changes, the new urban wastewater treatment directive, energy pricing, and the integration of energy storage.

A stand-out event was the Congress of Mayors and Local Administration of Romania, which gathered over 500 local government officials to discuss topics such as accelerating the green transition, attracting funds for sustainable infrastructure, and strategic investments in energy, water, and waste management.

‘Unprecedented participation’

Camelia Buda, General Manager of Euroexpo Fairs, emphasised the importance of the event in shaping a sustainable future, saying “It is extraordinary what we have achieved through a joint effort between the private sector and innovation creators, the public sector, associations in the field, media partners and each of those interested in the field of sustainability.

“We have created the largest meeting place for green technology and dialogue between professionals in the field and representatives of the business and administrative environment, and the unprecedented participation shows us the need to create this ecosystem that will shape a sustainable life for all of us. We are grateful to each of them and confident that we can take this initiative even further, at the calibre of large-scale projects taking place in Europe.”

Elsewhere, Oana Netbai, Romexpo’s commercial director, highlighted the role of the exhibition in accelerating the green transition, both in Romania and in other markets.

“Through strong partnerships and an integrated approach, we continue to support the development of a sustainable, smart and collaborative environment. We thank all those who contributed to the success of this reference event for Romania and for the region,” she said.
