NRGi Renewables becomes one of Denmark’s largest renewable energy players following acquisition

NRGi Renewables has announced the acquisition of 25 onshore wind turbines from SUSI Partners, making the firm one of the largest owners and operators of onshore renewable energy in Denmark.

NRGi Renewables has announced the acquisition of 25 onshore wind turbines from SUSI Partners, making the firm one of the largest owners and operators of onshore renewable energy in Denmark.

NRGi Renewables, which is jointly owned by the energy group NRGi and the pension company Sampension, said that the wind turbines, located in the Midtjylland, Vestjylland and Lolland regions, boast a total capacity of 89 MW and an annual production of approximately 275 GWh of electricity, equivalent to the needs of around 60,000 households.

Green transition

“We believe in the long-term electrification of Danish society, and this requires investments in the green transition,” commented Jakob Bundgaard, CEO of NRGi Renewables. “That is why we are now investing purposefully in reliable plants that are already part of the energy system and contribute with stable production.

“With the acquisition, we are also strengthening a portfolio that provides clear advantages in our ongoing operating activities and supports the further and necessary expansion of renewable energy plants.”

The acquisition brings NRGi Renewables’ total wind portfolio to more than 200 MW, while its overall renewable energy capacity, including solar installations, has risen to 380 MW. The company’s total portfolio includes 72 wind turbines and two solar parts.

Long-term potential

Announcing the acquisition of the 25 wind turbines, NRGi Renewables added that it sees ‘significant long-term potential’ for investments in renewable energy in Denmark.

“We work with an investment model where operation and development go hand in hand in Denmark,” Bundgaard added. “When we bring together operating plants and new projects here, we build the volume that provides economies of scale in operations and a solid foundation for executing on the pipeline of projects we look forward to in the coming years. These are investments that contribute to both a robust energy system and value creation for society.”

NRGi Renewables recently received the green light to establish a renewable energy facility in Nordjylland with 15 wind turbines and 80 hectares of solar cells. Elsewhere, last autumn, it inaugurated the largest solar photovoltaic park in Østjylland.

The acquisition of the 25 wind turbines from SUSI Partners is still subject to approval from the competition authorities. Read more here.
