Online retailer Ocado has unveiled a new solution, developed by Mondra, which enables it to link its product lifecycle data directly with carbon accounting processes.
It sees Ocado connect its product lifecycle platform, Click-PLM, with Mondra’s carbon accounting and management platform, creating an automated, product-level reporting system for Scope 3 emissions accounting across Ocado’s food retail operations.
‘More informed decision making’
“Integrating our product lifecycle data with Mondra allows us to automate key elements of our Scope 3 emissions accounting and better understand how changes in our product portfolio affect our carbon footprint,” commented Laura Fernandez, senior sustainability manager at Ocado.
“This supports more informed decision-making as we continue to develop our sustainability approach.”
The integration, which operates through a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) framework, enables Ocado to track changes in its product portfolio in a more dynamic way, utilising carbon data to support sustainability-related decision-making.
It also marks a shift from static reporting to a more system-based approach to Scope 3 management, integrating carbon considerations into product and commercial workflows.
Automated, accurate and actionable
“Ocado’s decision to use Mondra’s DaaS reflects a clear shift toward system-based, product-level Scope 3 management,” commented Jason Barrett, CEO of Mondra. “By integrating live product and volume data from Click-PLM directly into our carbon accounting platform, Ocado is moving beyond static reporting to embed carbon intelligence into everyday product and commercial decisions.
“This kind of integration shows how high quality, connected data can make sustainability reporting more automated, accurate and ultimately more actionable at scale.”
Mondra was developed with support from the British Retail Consortium, whose members include Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Co-op, Asda, Lidl, Aldi, Pets at Home, and Sainsbury’s as well as major suppliers and global brands. As it noted, the coalition is ‘working to establish a unified standard for measuring product-level performance – creating a level playing field that enables consistent and credible measurement across the food industry.’ Read more here.
