Italian renewable energy producer ERG SpA has been named the world’s most sustainable corporation in the 2026 edition of the Corporate Knights Global 100 ranking.
Danish manufacturer Pandora A/S takes second place in the annual rankings, with another energy firm, EDP Renováveis SA from Spain, taking third.
Revenue momentum
This year’s edition of the Corporate Knights Global 100 introduces a new core metric as part of the ranking methodology – sustainable revenue momentum – which measures how fast companies are growing their sustainable revenues.
This metric, which now accounts for one-third of a company’s score, has led to some significant changes in the rankings, year-on-year – this year’s leader, ERG, placed 18th last year, while last years top performer, Schneider Electric, drops to 40th in this year’s rankings.
Other core metrics in the methodology include sustainable revenue share and sustainable investment, which comprise the other two thirds of a company’s score, with traditional indicators such as emissions, water use, safety, and board diversity incorporated in the new KPIs, however these no longer dominate the scoring system.

Low-carbon economy
“What really matters to us is the contribution [these companies] are making to the low-carbon economy,” commented Michael Yow, the director of rankings for Corporate Knights, who noted that the streamlined methodology simplifies and standardises the reporting mechanism, while also offering a point of differentiation.
“In terms of performance, the G100 companies are back in top form, beating the benchmark MSCI AWCI index over the past year,” he added.
This year’s list sees 37 companies enter the rankings for the first time, while 33 drop off the list. A notable US resurgence is evident, with 20 US-based companies featured, more than any other market. Just one firm, Danish energy company Ørsted, retains the same position as last year (9th).
Overall, sustainable revenues account for up to 61% of the total revenues generated by companies in the ranking, compared to just 17.3% of all other publicly-listed firms, Corporate Knights said. Read more here.
