TotalEnergies has reported a 65% reduction in operated methane emissions, against a 2020 baseline, in its latest Sustainability & Climate Progress Report.
The energy firm said that it remains on track to achieve a 80% reduction in methane emissions by 2030, adding that it ‘continues to pursue responsible investment in low‑emissions and low breakeven oil and gas projects that support competitive production’.
Operated Scope 1 and 2 emissions totalled 33.1 million tonnes in 2025, down from 46 million tonnes in 2015, outperforming the company’s target of 37 million tonnes for the year.
Greenhouse gas emissions from the group’s oil and gas facilities fell by 38% over the same ten-year period.
TotalEnergies added that new projects in Brazil and the United States, which were commissioned last year, helped reduce average emissions intensity to below 16 kg CO₂e/boe, setting what it described as a ‘new benchmark’ for future operations.
Integrated Power
Elsewhere, TotalEnergies continues to expand its Integrated Power division, with electricity production reaching 48 terawatt-hours in 2025, equivalent to approximately 10% of the company’s hydrocarbon output.
This growth contributed to an 18.6% reduction in the lifecycle carbon intensity of energy products sold, compared with 2015, exceeding the company’s -17% target.
‘These results underscore once again the robustness of the company’s integrated multi‑energy model and confirm the relevance of a strategy designed to combine growth in the energy supply, competitiveness, and emissions reduction,’ it said in a statement.
TotalEnergies operates in around 120 countries and boasts more than 100,000 employees. The company added that it ‘places sustainability at the heart of its strategy, its projects and its operations’. Read more here.
