Ingredient solutions firm Tate & Lyle has extended its partnership with Van Triest CirQlar, part of ForFarmers, focusing on the management and use of co-products generated during production.
The extended agreement will see Van Triest CirQlar manage citrus pulp derived from pectin manufacturing at Tate & Lyle’s facility in Großenbrode, Germany, and oversee the sales and distribution of said pulp, which is widely used as an animal feed.
‘High value ingredients’
“At our Großenbrode facility, we turn upcycled citrus peels into high value ingredients and give their co-products a second life – that’s circularity in action,” commented Sönke Schweiger, Tate & Lyle plant director in Großenbrode. “With this expanded partnership, we can maximise the commercial and environmental value of our pectin production.
“By harmonising our co-products models across two sites drawing on external expertise, we can focus on delivering high quality, functional food and drink ingredients that support healthier diets while caring for our planet and making good use of its resources.”
The Großenbrode facility, which was acquired by Tate & Lyle in 2024, has supplied farmers in northern Germany with citrus pulp co-products for animal feed for over forty years.
Following its acquisition of the site, Tate & Lyle identified operational links with another of its facilities, Koog aan de Zaan in the Netherlands, where Van Triest CirQlar already manages the distribution of corn-based co-products. The extension of the partnership means that Tate & Lyle and Van Triest CirQlar’s operations are aligned across both sites.
Planning reliability
As Tate & Lyle said in a statement, the agreement will ensure long-term market access and structured pricing for Großenbrode’s main capacity of citrus pulp co-product, reducing commercial risk and enabling planning reliability. It also helps to strengthen Tate & Lyle’s circular value chains, and ‘optimise value realisation’ for its co-products.
“This partnership aligns with our objective to lead in managed co‑product value chains and is an important step in further strengthening our relationship with Tate & Lyle,” added Roel van Haeren, managing director, Van Triest CirQlar Europe. “It is a strategic expansion of our activities in Germany and our citrus pulp position in this market. It’s exactly how Van Triest CirQlar grows – by professionalising co‑product streams and turning them into dependable, circular value.” Read more here.
