Tech firm Lenovo has said that more than 90% of the electricity it uses across its global operations is now sourced from renewable energy, as it published its FY2025‑26 ESG Report.

As the company said in a statement, it made ‘strong progress’ against its ESG goals in areas such as emissions reduction, circular economy initiatives, responsible AI governance and social impact, while also introducing a series of new sustainability targets.

‘An important moment’

“This fiscal year represents an important moment for Lenovo,” commented Dave Carroll, Lenovo’s chief legal and corporate responsibility officer.

“As we near the end of our first generation of ESG goals, we are proud of the progress we’ve made – but even more focused on applying what we’ve learned to accelerate future impact. Our work is closely aligned with the needs of our customers and partners as we navigate environmental challenges, geopolitical complexity, and the rapid evolution of AI.”

The firm said that it remains on-track to achieve its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with its targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

It added that the renewable energy used across its operations is sourced from onsite generation, power purchase agreements and renewable energy certificates.

Repairability and reuse

Elsewhere, Lenovo has made progress against its R.E.A.L Framework, which focuses on repairability, reuse, and recycling, with all its PC products (excluding tablets and accessories) now incorporating post-consumer recycled materials, and the firm recovering more than 363 million kg of end-of-life products since 2005. It has also increased the sustainability of its smartphone packaging, including the use of 60% recycled materials and a 50% reduction in single-use plastics.

Lenovo also pointed to the growing role of artificial intelligence in its sustainability strategy, with the firm using AI to support metric collection and analysis for sustainability, and supporting industry initiatives such as the ITU AI Skills Coalition and the Coalition for Sustainable AI.

‘As Lenovo prepares its next generation of ESG aspirations, it remains focused on innovation and responsible growth to advance sustainability worldwide,’ the company said in a statement. Read more here.
