Carlsberg Sweden has teamed up with freight technology firm Einride to unveil a limited-edition, alcohol-free ‘Electric Beer’, which is brewed entirely with 100% renewable energy and transported using electric freight transport.

The launch of Electric Beer marks the next phase in Carlsberg and Einride’s partnership, which will see Einride’s AI-powered technology power between 35% and 40% of the beer maker’s freight operations in the southern and western parts of Sweden by the end of this year.

The beer features a QR code on each can, which unlocks a number of data points regarding its sustainable production and transport journey. In particular, users are able to deep dive into a future route between Malmö, Falkenberg, and Gothenburg, and explore the role that advanced AI plays in route planning, vehicle utilisation, and real-time logistics to reduce environmental impact.

‘Advanced freight technology’

“Carlsberg has a legacy in brewing excellence, and now they’re pushing that legacy forward with advanced freight technology,” commented Linnéa Kornehed Falck, founder and deputy-CEO at Einride.

“This isn’t just about sustainability; it’s about pushing the boundaries of freight technology, where electric is a step forward in redefining how goods are moved. This campaign brings that to life and highlights what’s possible when tradition and innovation come together.”

According to Einride, its technology ensures zero tailpipe emissions, cuts noise pollution in half, and eliminates NOx emissions compared to diesel transport.

The beer maker and Einride launched their collaboration in 2022, and since then, they have saved more than 418 tonnes of CO₂e and logged 340,000 fully-electric kilometres. With the expansion of their agreement, up to 2,460 tonnes of CO₂e are set to be saved annually.

Sustainable logistics

“We are pleased with our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making together in sustainable logistics,” added Peter Hammarstedt, MD at Carlsberg Sverige. “At Carlsberg Sverige, we continuously work to take concrete steps toward a more sustainable operation, and increasing the use of electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example of this.

“We hope this will spark interest in the importance of sustainable and smart logistics – and inspire others to take action in their own industries.” Read more here.
