Carbon Capture

Carbon Capture is a range of technologies designed to capture carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from industrial facilities, power generation and, increasingly, directly from the atmosphere before they are released into the air. The captured CO₂ can then be transported for permanent underground storage or used in industrial processes, helping to reduce emissions from hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, steel, chemicals and energy production. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) are increasingly recognised as important tools for supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy, alongside renewable energy and energy efficiency.

SustainabilityOnline keeps you informed about the latest developments in carbon capture, including CCS and CCUS technologies, direct air capture, carbon removal, industrial decarbonisation, climate policy and investment in low-carbon innovation. We explore how organisations are deploying carbon capture technologies, reducing emissions from industrial processes, advancing net zero strategies, responding to evolving sustainability regulations and integrating carbon management into wider corporate sustainability programmes. We also examine developments in carbon storage, climate finance, emissions reduction technologies and the role of carbon capture in achieving long-term climate goals.

Related topics: carbon capture, carbon capture and storage (CCS), carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), direct air capture (DAC), carbon removal, carbon dioxide (CO₂), industrial decarbonisation, greenhouse gas emissions, net zero, carbon storage, climate technology, emissions reduction, low-carbon innovation, climate policy, sustainable energy and corporate sustainability.

A new study led by researchers from Stanford University has suggested that the widespread deployment of carbon capture technologies would be 'much more expensive and damaging' than transitioning entirely to renewable energy.
