Suntory Beverage & Food Europe (SBFE), which is home to brands such as Ribena, Lucozade, Orangina and Schweppes, has reported a 20% reduction in its carbon footprint compared to 2019 levels, in its 2025 Sustainability Report.
According to the report, this included a 22% reduction in emissions from its own operations, and a 20% reduction across its wider value chain.
Environmental impact
During the year, SBFE undertook its first nature assessment to identify where its operations and supply chain have the greatest impacts on, and dependencies on, nature, and partnered with Pilario to assess the environmental impact of its products and packaging early in the development process.
On packaging, SBFE said that recycled plastic content across its portfolio rose to 53% last year, exceeding its target of 50% for 2025, which was supported by brand-level transitions such as moving Schweppes bottles to 100% recycled plastic.
Elsewhere, the beverage maker said that it reduced added sugar across its portfolio by a third (33%) compared to a 2015 baseline, with sugar content in its Oasis Tropical brand in France now 44% lower than its original recipe. SBFE is committed to reducing total sugar across its portfolio by 40% by 2030, and ensuring that at least two thirds of its portfolio will have less than 5g of sugar per 100ml within the same timeframe.
‘More essential’
“In 2025, sustainability did not get easier – but it became even more essential,” commented Pierre Decroix, chief executive, Suntory Beverage & Food Europe.
“This report reflects the determination of our teams to keep moving forward: cutting emissions, advancing circular packaging and supporting our communities, even in a turbulent external environment. Progress is rarely linear, but our Growing for Good mindset continues to guide how we build long‑term value for society and for our business.”
In terms of social initiatives, meanwhile, SBFE donated more than €1.17 million to charitable causes during the year, while its employees volunteered over 4,500 hours across Europe.
Looking ahead, the firm said that it will focus on delivering its Climate Transition Plan, accelerating action across packaging and agriculture, and strengthening resilience, despite shifts in sustainability expectations and regulatory requirements. Read more here.
