Business supplies distributor OptiGroup has announced that its climate targets have been validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The Gothenburg, Sweden-based firm’s targets include short-term goals covering scope 1 and 2 emissions and a long-term net-zero objective for scopes 1, 2, and 3.
Emissions reduction
As part of its sustainability commitments, OptiGroup is aiming to reduce direct and energy-related greenhouse gas emissions by 54.6% by 2033, compared with 2023 levels, as well as ensuring that 81% of its suppliers, based by emissions from purchased goods and services, have their own science-based targets in place by 2030.
The group is also seeking to reduce its absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050, compared to a base year of 2023.
SBTI approval means that its targets align with the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
‘Structured and long-term’ efforts
“This approval is a strong validation of our structured and long-term climate efforts,” commented Sana Saleem, head of sustainability at OptiGroup. “We’ve already taken important steps to reduce our climate impact, and this recognition accelerates our work with a clear roadmap to achieve measurable results across the entire organisation.”
OptiGroup added that it ‘continues to drive sustainability with a focus on concrete actions and collaboration throughout the value chain’.
