UN climate chief links Himalayan glacial collapse to climate risk

UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell has warned that the glacial collapse and flash flooding in the Hindu Kush Himalayas demonstrate the vulnerability of mountain environments to climate change. “We also know a warming climate, driven by humanity burning colossal amounts of coal, oil and gas, is making tragedies like this one, and so many others around the world, much more likely, frequent and severe, with vulnerable communities often hardest hit,” he commented.

Ørsted’s 913MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 enters commercial operation

Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure have announced that the 913MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea has entered commercial operation. The project comprises 83 11MW turbines and has long-term corporate PPAs covering 786MW with Amazon, BASF, Covestro, REWE Group and Google. Its operation takes Ørsted’s German offshore wind capacity to about 2.5GW, equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 2.5 million households.

Renault Trucks publishes 2025 sustainability report

Renault Trucks has said in its 2025 Sustainability Report that 90% of urban transport requirements can already be met by its fully electric solutions, as well as detailing measures covering vehicle life extension, parts and battery refurbishment and remanufacturing. The company notes that road freight accounts for 7% of Europe’s CO₂ emissions and that more than 60,000 trucks are sold annually.

Return secures €180m financing and Vattenfall agreement for 800MWh Dutch battery

Return Energy has reached financial close on the 200MW/800MWh Sirius battery-storage project in Winschoten, Groningen, following a long-term fixed-price tolling agreement with Vattenfall. The project represents an investment of approximately €180m and is due to enter commercial operation in Q4 2027.

Sunotec moves 100MW/441MWh German battery project into construction

Sunotec has commenced implementation of a 100MW/441MWh standalone battery-energy-storage system in Stendal, Saxony-Anhalt. The project reached ready-to-build status in Q2 2026 and is being delivered by Sunotec on a turnkey basis, including engineering, installation and long-term operations and maintenance. Commissioning is planned for Q1 2027.

Cloudberry completes acquisition to nearly double renewable generation

Cloudberry Clean Energy has completed its acquisition of a Nordic renewable-energy platform from Orrön Energy Holding, adding approximately 758GWh of annual proportionate electricity production. The transaction takes Cloudberry’s total annual proportionate production to about 2.1TWh, almost double its level at the end of 2025.

Hep Global develops solar-plus-storage projects west of Munich

German renewable-energy developer Hep Global has developed two solar parks with integrated battery storage in Bavaria, according to reports. The 8.4MWp Buchloe project includes a 6.1MWh battery and is expected to produce approximately 9.4 million kWh annually, while the 3.7MWp Wiedergeltingen project includes 2.5MWh of storage and is expected to generate 4.3 million kWh. Both projects are scheduled for completion before the end of 2026.
