HCLTech reaches 2030 emissions target four years early
Technology firm HCLTech has cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 55.84% from its FY20 baseline, exceeding its 2030 target of 50% four years ahead of schedule. Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions combined have fallen 27.7%. Renewable energy now accounts for 49.79% of total energy consumption and 89.65% of energy used by data centres. Water consumption fell to 10.68 litres per employee per day. “Sustainability is becoming a catalyst for innovation and long-term growth,” commented Vipul Arora, global head of sustainability at HCLTech.
European Energy pairs 140MW of solar with 170MWh of battery storage
European Energy has appointed Capalo AI to optimise and trade two hybrid renewable-energy projects in Lithuania and Latvia, combining more than 140MWp of solar capacity with 71MW/170MWh of battery storage. The Anykščiai project in Lithuania has a 78MWp solar park and 25MW/65MWh battery, while Latvia’s Saldus project combines 65.7MWp of solar with a 46MW/105MWh battery.
Voya Energy raises $35m for aluminium-based power system
US-based Voya Energy has raised $35 million in Series A funding for an electricity-generation system that converts low-grade scrap aluminium into power through a low-temperature electrochemical process. The system produces electricity without combustion or point-of-use air emissions and is designed to provide up to 2MW from a standard 20-foot container. The company plans initial deployments in 2027 and manufacturing scale-up in 2028.
JinkoSolar reports 29.6GW of first-half module shipments
China’s JinkoSolar shipped 29.6GW of solar modules during the first half of 2026, with around 70% going to overseas markets. Cumulative module shipments surpassed 420GW, making JinkoSolar the first module manufacturer to reach that level, while Tiger Neo shipments exceeded 250GW. The company also launched its Tiger Neo 5.0 module with output above 700W and efficiency of up to 25.91%.
Piramal Pharma cuts Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 22.6%
India-based Piramal Pharma has reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse-gas emissions by 22.6% against its FY2022 baseline, while renewable energy reached 41% of total energy consumption. The company recycled and reused 263,000 kilolitres of freshwater and diverted 65% of waste for recycling. It also assessed 38% of critical suppliers against sustainability criteria and announced a $90 million investment in advanced therapeutics facilities in the US.
Wildfire smoke delivers nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to ecosystems
Rain falling through wildfire smoke can deliver unusually large quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, according to research published in Global Change Biology. The study found that nutrients released by burned landscapes can become dissolved in rain and immediately available to organisms. “It’s important to remember that what goes up must come down,” said lead author Alexandra Ponette-González, urban ecologist at the University of Utah and Natural History Museum of Utah.
