Alfa Laval has joined the One Water consortium, which is aimed at addressing Europe’s growing water challenges.

The Swedish equipment supplier said that joining the consortium ‘aligns perfectly’ with its sustainability agenda, with Eline Suijlen, water industry manager in Alfa Laval‘s Food & Water Division, commenting, “Solving the water challenges is crucial for our planet. Europe is strong in concept development and patents for solutions but can do better in converting the solutions into business. […] Alfa Laval brings both experience and expertise to the table.”

Water KIC

The consortium is a contender for managing the EU’s new Water Knowledge & Innovation Community (KIC) under the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), joining nine other KICs that address themes such as digitalisation, energy, food, and health.

The Water KIC will focus on addressing topics such as water scarcity; drought and floods; marine and freshwater ecosystem degradation; and the development of a circular and sustainable blue economy. The winning bid for managing the KIC will be announced in the third quarter of this year.

The One Water consortium brings together public sector partners such as universities and research centres, along with private sector representatives such as Alfa Laval.

Letter of Commitment

Elsewhere, Tom Erixon, CEO and president of Alfa Laval, was in attendance at the International Energy Agency’s 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency last week, where he signed the CEO Letter of Commitment to promote the role of business as a key vehicle for the implementation of industrial energy efficiency technologies.

“We believe that energy efficiency is vital for maintaining industrial competitiveness,” Erixon commented.

“By reducing the cost of energy, you can improve both profitability and sustainability. So, energy efficiency is both good business and essential for our future. By working together, we are contributing to global energy security and the urgent need to double energy efficiency progresses this decade.” Read more here and here.
