Some 25 festivals and events in 12 different countries achieved AGF Certification in 2025, A Greener Future has announced, making them among the most sustainable events in the world.
The most recent recipients of AGF Certification include Montreux Jazz Festival, Ultra Music Festival in Miami, and the new LIDO Festival in London, while several participants including Boom Festival in Portugal and Paradise City in Belgium, have ‘stitched sustainability into their DNA’, A Greener Future noted.
“Congratulations to all of the certified events in 2025, who have continued to prioritise their commitment to protecting our planet and each other, despite some so called world leaders demonstrating the opposite intentions,” commented Claire O’Neill, CEO, AGF.
All certified events will receive their acolades at the Green Events & Innovations Conference, taking place in London on 24 February.
A Greener Future’s framework follows a structured assessment process designed to measure sustainability performance in the events sector. This framework assesses areas such as governance, local environments and communities, travel, energy use, food, water, materials, equality, diversity and inclusion, and biodiversity.
‘A decisive role’
Mathieu Jaton, director of Montreux Jazz Festival, commented that the AGF certification played a “decisive role in accelerating and structuring our sustainability journey. While the Montreux Jazz Festival had already implemented various initiatives – from waste management to soft mobility and responsible partnerships – these efforts remained fragmented.
“The certification process came at a pivotal moment, just as we were beginning a more holistic reflection on our environmental, social, and economic impact. It enabled us to align our internal objectives around a shared vision of sustainability, build a clear and measurable roadmap, foster collaborations with committed experts and local partners, and strengthen our credibility with our stakeholders.”
Elsewhere, Sam Booth, sustainability director, AEG, which operates LIDO Festival, said that he was “thrilled” to see the festival’s efforts recognised.
“Having independent verification of the outstanding work that the team undertook in 2025 is hugely important and we cannot wait to continue setting a new standard for sustainability in live events through 2026 and beyond,” he commented.
