Packaging giant Amcor has said that it is making progress across key areas of its sustainability agenda, in its latest sustainability report.

The 2025 sustainability report, which is the first to be published since Amcor‘s merger with Berry Global, states that the company has already achieved its 2025 target of using 10% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic use, amounting to 218,000 metric tonnes.

In addition, by the end of its financial year, 72% of the company’s total packaging production by weight was designed for recyclability (96% of rigid packaging, 49% of flexible packaging, 100% of specialty cartons).

‘A turning point’

“This year marks a turning point for Amcor,” commented chief executive Peter Konieczny. “With industry-leading innovation, global scale and deep packaging expertise, the new Amcor is uniquely positioned to deliver breakthrough solutions and advance a circular packaging future.”

The year also saw the introduction of more sustainable packaging options, including the expanded AmFibe range of paper-based packaging for products such as instant coffee pouches and trail mix bars; new AmPrima, AmLite, HeatFlex flexible formats; and a recycle-ready blister pack for pharmaceuticals under the AmSky banner.

Emissions reduction

Elsewhere, Amcor said that it has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its own operations by 20% over the past four years, and doubled its use of renewable electricity, which now accounts for 30% of total energy consumption.

In addition, over the same period, some 75% of the company’s operational waste was recycled, while site-level initiatives contributed to reductions in water use.

“Amcor’s ambitious goals and focused strategy are driven by our commitment to leadership in sustainability,” added David Clark, Amcor’s chief sustainability officer. “Our progress demonstrates we can deliver on our ambitions through innovation, collaboration and advocacy across the value chain.”

Amcor operates from more than 400 locations in over 40 countries, and boasts annual sales of around $23 billion. Read more here.
