The Chemours Company has said that it is ‘on track’ to achieve a 60% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and net zero by 2050.
In its 2024 Sustainability Report, entitled Trusted Chemistry, Chemours said that 2024 was a ‘pivotal year’ for the business, with the launch of a new corporate strategy, refreshed core values, and measurable sustainability achievements, including a 52% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and the completion of its first Double Materiality Assessment.
Elsewhere, the industrial and specialty chemicals manufacturer, which provides products for sectors such as refrigeration and air conditioning, transportation and advanced electronics, reported a 76% reduction in fluorinated organic chemical (FOC) process emissions globally since 2018, as it advances towards its target of a 99% reduction by 2030.
It also accomplished its 2030 Sustainable Offerings goal six years ahead of schedule, with more than half of its revenue coming from products that make a specific contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
‘More than aspirational’
“Our Trusted Chemistry vision is more than aspirational; it’s directional,” commented Denise Dignam, president and CEO of Chemours. “It guides how we operate, innovate, and engage with our stakeholders.
“The 2024 Sustainability Report reflects our unwavering commitment to responsible manufacturing, environmental stewardship, and community impact. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and excited about the opportunities ahead.”
Chemours has also upped its investment in technologies that it says will foster greater sustainability among its clients, including liquid cooling solutions for data centres that can significantly cut energy and water use compared with traditional cooling systems, as well as advanced binders that enable dry electrode manufacturing for electric vehicle batteries.
Circular economy
Chemours added that it is committed to building a more circular economy, by ‘implementing circularity principles in our operations and with partners, as part of our broader commitment to make the most of critical resources, prevent waste, take climate action, and support a thriving society’.
The Chemours Company generated revenues of around $5.78 billion in 2024, and operates 28 manufacturing sites, serving about 2,500 customers in 110 countries. Read more here and here.
