DuPont sources 100% renewable electricity for its European operations

DuPont has announced that 100% of the electricity used to power its operations in the EU now comes from renewable sources.

The materials firm achieved the milestone through a combination of on-site solar installations and the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), adding that it marks a major step towards meeting its 2030 Sustainability Goals and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

‘A significant step’

“At DuPont, we are guided by a core value of protecting the planet, aligning our sustainability goals to meet the expectations of our customers, value chain partners and the communities in which we operate,” commented Alexa Dembek, chief technology and sustainability officer at DuPont.

“Converting our European Union manufacturing sites to 100% renewable electricity is a significant step in our journey to further reduce our emissions, lower the carbon footprint of our products and put us on a clear path toward decarbonisation in our operations by 2050.”

Renewable energy commitment

The latest announcement follows on from DuPont joining RE100 in 2021, a a global environmental initiative led by the Climate Group, in partnership with CDP, which brings together firms committed to achieving 100% renewable energy across their operations.

DuPont operates 13 manufacturing sites across the EU, and its transition to renewable electricity has involved the installation of on-site solar panels and the purchase of bundled and unbundled RECs.

DuPont recently announced a restructuring of its management and reporting structure, ahead of the intended separation of its Electronics business in November of this year.
