Emerson sees Scope 1 and 2 emissions drop by half

Automation solutions firm Emerson has reported a 49% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, along with a 27% reduction in energy intensity, since 2021.

Automation solutions firm Emerson has reported a 49% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, along with a 27% reduction in energy intensity, since 2021.

The St Louis-based company made the announcement in its 2025 Sustainability Report, in which it outlined its progress in ‘advancing innovation and improving operational efficiency while driving meaningful environmental impact internally and for customers’, it said in a statement.

Other milestones featured in the report include the diverting of 70% of non-hazardous waste from landfill and incineration across its manufacturing facilities, against a 2022 baseline.

Elsewhere, Emerson has also invested in its employees, workplace safety and local communities, reporting a 78.9% employee engagement score, and a total recordable injury rate of 0.25. It announced a commitment of $200 million over 10 years to support educational initiatives in communities where it operates.

‘Dedication of our entire organisation’

“Our 2025 results reflect the dedication of our entire organisation to drive innovation and operational excellence,” said Mike Train, Emerson’s chief sustainability officer. “From our own facilities to our products and the collaborations we foster, we’re committed to delivering solutions that help our customers, employees and communities thrive.”

Along with operational improvement metrics, Emerson said that it is maintaining progress when it comes to sustainability disclosure, achieving an ‘A’ rating from CDP on Climate Change for the second consecutive year.

Headquartered in Missouri, Emerson provides automation systems and industrial software for industrial and manufacturing operations. In the second quarter of its financial year, it reported net sales of $4.56 billion, a 3% increase on the previous year.
