Arctic climate change linked to earthquake-triggered rock avalanche

Researchers at Germany’s GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel have found that Arctic warming and permafrost degradation likely weakened a slope before a magnitude 6.5 earthquake near Jan Mayen in March 2025 triggered a major rock avalanche. The debris buried part of the Kjerulf Glacier. “This 2025 earthquake is a striking example of cascading natural hazards,” commented Dr Guilherme W. S. de Melo, postdoctoral researcher in the Marine Geodynamics research unit at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.

TenneT Netherlands prices €2.5bn green bond for electricity-grid investment

TenneT Netherlands has priced €2.5 billion of green bonds, comprising a €1.5 billion seven-year tranche and a €1 billion 15-year tranche, according to reports. The bonds are backed by an unconditional Dutch State guarantee, with proceeds allocated to eligible investments in electricity networks, connection services and interconnectors supporting expansion and reinforcement of the Dutch high-voltage grid.

UK solar generation reaches record 8.8TWh over summer

UK solar farms and rooftop installations generated a record 8.8TWh of electricity across June, July and August 2026, up 23% from summer 2025 and double the level recorded in summer 2021, according to analysis by Carbon Brief. July set a monthly record of 3.3TWh, equivalent to 15% of UK electricity demand. Installed solar capacity has reached nearly 24GW, with almost 172,000 installations added since the start of 2026.

KER Toki Power commences battery project in Romania

KER Toki Power Romania has launched its first greenfield investment in the country, a standalone battery-storage project at Ișalnița with 147MW of power capacity and 294MWh of storage, according to reports. The investment is expected to cost several tens of millions of euros and reach completion in the first half of 2027. The company plans to expand its Romanian standalone storage portfolio to between 609MWh and 1,200MWh.

Derichebourg launches €800m green bond to finance recycling acquisition

Derichebourg has launched a €800 million senior green-bond offering in two tranches maturing in 2031 and 2033. Proceeds will primarily support the French firm’s acquisition of 100% of Scholz Holding GmbH and 80% of Scholz Recycling GmbH, with remaining funds used to repay acquisition-related borrowing and refinance existing debt.

Alfanar plans $100m investment in Indian wind-turbine manufacturer Senvion

Saudi Arabia’s Alfanar Group plans to invest $100 million in its India-based Senvion wind-turbine manufacturing business, with the first $34 million tranche released in September and the remainder expected within weeks, according to reports. The investment will support new turbine technology, product development and international expansion. Senvion has annual manufacturing capacity of 1.5GW and an operating turbine fleet exceeding 1.6GW.

Lerøy considers NOK750m green bond

Lerøy Seafood Group has mandated Danske Bank and DNB Carnegie to explore a new senior unsecured green-bond issue with an expected size of NOK750 million and a six-year tenor. Net proceeds would finance or refinance projects meeting the company’s Green Finance Framework. The potential issue remains subject to market conditions, with no final issuance terms announced.
