More than four fifths ‘willing to do more’ on climate change

Some 83% of global consumers are already taking actions to address climate change, while 81% say that they are willing to do more, a new global survey by IKEA has found.

According to the IKEA Life at Home Report 2026, consumers are increasingly turning to their homes as a source of security, control and comfort amid growing concerns over the state of the world.

This includes living more sustainably, with 64% of respondents saying that they worry about climate change, while 45% feel ‘personally affected’ by it. Just over one fifth (21%) said that their ‘ideal home’ would help them live more sustainably, while 41% say that health benefits would motivate more climate action.

‘Although knowledge, confidence and cost can hold people back, many are still repairing, donating, rethinking how they live, and even planning to update their storage to get more control at home and save resources,’ IKEA noted. ‘And with 54% saying saving money would encourage them to make more sustainable changes, money can be a motivator as well as a barrier.’

Positive about the future

Other findings from the study include that people who are happy with their life at home are more likely to be positive about the future, with 65% of this cohort expressing optimism compared to a global average of 48%. ‘Feeling comfortable’ is of high importance (86%) to respondents, yet only 66% said that they experience it often at home.

Among the top concerns cited by respondents were household finances and disposable income (37%), physical health (37%) and the state of the economy (31%).

‘Sense of control’

“A good home can make a big difference to how we feel about life and the future. It can give us comfort, security and a sense of control,” commented Helen Duphorn, global communication and positioning manager at Ingka Group (IKEA).

“These things matter when life around us changes. At IKEA, we want to make it easier for many more people to create a home that works for them.”

IKEA’s Life at Home survey was conducted by YouGov among 31,689 people aged 18 and over across 31 countries in July 2025. The report also incorporates qualitative research by Crowd DNA, as well as People & Planet Consumer Insights & Trends research from GlobeScan. Read more here.
