The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is the European Union’s framework for reducing packaging waste and accelerating the transition to a circular economy. The regulation introduces harmonised rules covering the entire packaging lifecycle, including packaging design, recycling, recycled content, reuse and refill systems, labelling and waste management. It applies to all packaging placed on the EU market and is intended to reduce unnecessary packaging while increasing resource efficiency and supporting climate goals.
SustainabilityOnline provides coverage of the latest PPWR developments, including regulatory updates, implementation guidance, packaging innovation, circular economy strategies and evolving compliance requirements. We explore how businesses are adapting to new packaging rules, improving recyclability, increasing the use of recycled materials, reducing packaging waste and responding to changing sustainability legislation. We also examine developments in sustainable packaging, extended producer responsibility, eco-design, reuse and refill systems, plastic reduction and corporate sustainability strategies.
