ChargePoint has announced the appointment of John Saffrett as its new EVP and managing director for Europe, as the EV charging infrastructure firm seeks to expand its presence across European markets.
Saffrett, who perviously held the role of global deputy chief executive officer of Ayvens, a fleet management firm, will oversee ChargePoint’s sales, customer relationships, partnerships and market expansion activities across the region, reporting to CEO Rick Wilmer. He has served as a member of ChargePoint’s advisory council since March 2026.
‘Accelerate our momentum’
“Europe is at the centre of our growth ambitions, and John is the ideal leader to accelerate our momentum in this critical region,” said Wilmer “His deep experience in fleet management, digital transformation, and large-scale operations combined with his existing knowledge of ChargePoint as an Advisory Council member positions him to hit the ground running. We are thrilled to welcome John to the leadership team.”
ChargePoint’s expansion in Europe comes amid growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the continent, driven by the rapid expansion of EV ownership and changing regulatory requirements.
Prior to working at Ayvens, Saffrett held a variety of leadership roles at ALD Automotive, while earlier in his career, he spent close to a decade in senior IT and transformation roles.
Electric mobility
“Having worked closely with the ChargePoint team as an advisor, I have seen firsthand the strength of the company’s people, technology, and platform,” he commented.
“Europe’s transition to electric mobility is committed and accelerating, and ChargePoint is uniquely positioned to lead that transition as a market leader in hardware, software, platforms and experience as the longest serving and one of the largest players in the world in this space. I am excited to be working with the team to help define what intelligent electrification means for our customers – Europe’s fleets, businesses, and drivers – and being a responsible leader in driving the electric transition in Europe.”
ChargePoint recently expanded its European offering with the rollout of its Express Solo DC charger. It also recently announced strategic partnerships with vehicle manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz and Ford Pro. The company operates a network of more than 1.4 million charging ports globally.
