Power management firm Eaton has teamed up with EV infrastructure specialist AMP IT to introduce EV charging-as-a-service solutions for building owners in Switzerland, which incorporate solar energy generation and storage.
The initiative will help business owners ‘optimise the efficiency and system performance of electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) without the complexity of EVCI ownership’, Eaton said in a statement.
Backed by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy under the RechargeAuPoint programme, the service aims to scale EV charging infrastructure in multi-residential, office, industrial and logistics buildings.
Global energy demand
“Decentralised energy production and management is essential to meet growing global energy demands, and this project shows how collaboration and technology developments, such as our Buildings as a Grid, approach will make the energy transition sustainable and profitable for everyone involved,” commented Andreea Laplace, director, sustainability and energy transition offerings at Eaton.
As part of the service, Eaton’s Buildings as a Grid energy management model is combined with AMP IT’s AI-powered smart charging platform to enable building owners to benefit from sustainable infrastructure without the burden of ownership or maintenance, the company noted.
Solar energy boost
A key goal of the initiative is to achieve a 30% boost across Switzerland in the use of on-site generated solar energy for EV charging, reduce strain on the electricity grid, and contribute to grid stability and energy security.
Partners in the initiative include publicly traded real estate investment funds, experienced service operators, leading energy, procurement and construction (EPC) companies, local utility companies and academic partners.
“We trust that this programme will bring significant contributions to e-mobility with smarter EV charging solutions making better use of locally produced renewable energies, enhanced energy self-consumption schemes, and cost-effective battery storage solutions, in various use cases,” added Ilya Tyuvildin, AMP IT co-founder.
