Host Hotels & Resorts has invested around $300 million in climate resilience measures since 2016, and approved more than 30 additional resilience projects last year, the group said in its 2026 Corporate Responsibility Report.
The Bethesda, Maryland-based firm, which owns 71 properties in the United States and five properties internationally – encompassing some 41,700 rooms – said that it completed more than 1,000 sustainability projects between 2021 and 2025, which it expects will generate around $30 million in expected annual utility savings.
Elsewhere, it conducted an extensive climate risk assessment across all of its hotels and resorts, the findings of which have been integrated into a climate transition plan.
‘Responsible investment’
“At Host, responsible investment is how we protect and strengthen our portfolio – from deploying resilience capital in higher-risk markets and expanding renewable energy to advancing green building certifications and investing in our people and communities,” commented Mike Lentz, executive vice president, development, design & construction and executive sponsor of Host’s CR program.
“This year’s report highlights how disciplined capital allocation and environmental stewardship are helping us build a more resilient, efficient portfolio, support stronger communities, and create enduring value for our stockholders and other stakeholders.”
Renewable energy
Host sourced close to a third (30%) of its electricity from renewable sources in 2025, with 14 of its properties operating on-site solar facilities, and a further eight installations in development.
Since 2022, it has diverted more than 1,150 tonnes of waste from landfill through a green donations programme, which donates used furniture, fixtures and equipment from hotel renovation projects to local non-profits.
Community investment also remained a focus during 2025, with support provided to 276 non-profit organisations, including more than 230 employee-selected initiatives under the company’s Community Impact Framework.
Elsewhere, Host added that it has reached close to $5 billion in sustainable financing through the allocation of $2.45 billion in green bond proceeds and a $2.5 billion sustainability-linked credit facility. Read more here.
