Ardagh Glass Packaging North America has announced the completion of a 13-megawatt solar project, which will power its Madera, California, facility with renewable energy.

Ardagh Glass Packaging North America has announced the completion of a 13-megawatt solar project, which will power its Madera, California, facility with renewable energy.

The solar project was developed by Longroad Energy, which will also operate the facility, and will account for around 20% of the glass manufacturing plan’s electricity demand.

‘A more resilient future’

“Longroad Energy is pleased that our solar project will help AGP-North America to meet its impressive sustainability goals,” commented Eric Barnhart, VP, corporate development at Longroad Energy. “We are proud to collaborate with AGP-North America and contribute to a clean and more resilient future.”

Other partners to work on the project included First Solar, Valta Energy, McCarthy Building Companies, Nevados and A-C Electric Company.

Cost-effective solutions

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the new facility, Ardagh Glass Packaging North America CEO Brian Brandstatter commented that the new project not only reduces the firm’s environmental impact but also strengthens community investment.

“This renewable electricity project in Madera is a testament to Ardagh’s commitment to sustainability,” he said. “Beyond protecting the environment, we are investing in our local community and our customers. By enhancing our sustainability efforts, we are ensuring long-term value, reliability and cost-effective solutions for the brands that rely on us. This initiative underscores our dedication to being a responsible and forward-thinking glass container manufacturer in California.”

Ardagh has been actively integrating renewable energy into its operations – in 2019, the firm partnered with KDC Solar on the development of a solar field at its Bridgeton, N.J., glass production facility.

Ardagh Glass Packaging operates 37 production facilities in North America, Europe and Africa, employs approximately 13,000 people, and has recorded revenues of $4.2 billion. Read more here.
