Logistics giant Kuehne+Nagel said that last year saw it engage with around 50% of its global customer base to drive decarbonisation initiatives along the entire value chain.
Kuehne+Nagel made the announcement in its 2025 Sustainability Report, in which it reported “meaningful progress on [its] sustainability journey, demonstrating resilience amid the challenges 2025 brought,” commented Stefan Paul, CEO.
Its customer engagement approach has been particularly concentrated in sectors such as semiconductors, healthcare and consumer, where sustainability investments are increasingly embedded into operational processes.
Emissions reduction
The past year also saw Kuehne+Nagel resubmit its emission reduction targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), shifting its approach from absolute emissions targets to predominantly intensity-based metrics, while also raising its ambition in areas under direct control, particularly Scope 1 and 2.
Elsewhere, operational improvements included expanding its use of electric trucks, sourcing 100% renewable electricity for all contract logistics sites, and the introduction of a sustainable procurement policy.
It deployed sustainable fuels across all transport modes to reduce emissions – in air logistics, for example, close to 18 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel were sourced, while sea logistics operations used more than 3,000 tonnes of sustainable marine fuel.
Social sustainability
Beyond environmental measures, Kuehne+Nagel reported increased activity in workforce and community initiatives. It conducted 80 community projects across 36 countries and achieved workplace certification in 73 countries, reflecting internal engagement efforts.
“We also achieved a Great Place to Work certification in 73 countries, reflecting an engaged workforce and a culture shaped by feedback,” Paul added.
As the year ended, it was also featured in the BBC StoryWorks Living Legacy series, which focused on its collaboration efforts in logistics.
“None of the progress outlined in this report would be possible without the trust and commitment of our employees, customers and partners,” said Paul. “Together, we are shaping a more resilient, responsible, and low-carbon future for global logistics.” Read more here.
