COP29 organisers announce new online sustainability training programme

The COP29 Azerbaijan operating company has announced the launch of a new online sustainability training programme for the general public.

The COP29 Azerbaijan operating company has announced the launch of a new online sustainability training programme for the general public.

The move comes as the operating company seeks to ‘ramp up its efforts to promote sustainable development and uphold global environmental commitments in the fight against climate change‘, it said in a statement.

Developed by experts from various fields, the programme aims to raise awareness of ecological and social sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity, and other important topics.

Sustainable and inclusive

The programme emphasises the role of each citizen in fostering a sustainable and inclusive future leading up to COP29, the operating company said.

It aims to provide essential knowledge, enhance public awareness on these subjects, and encourage the establishment and implementation of sustainable practices before, during, and after the COP29 conference in Baku.

Interested participants can register for the online training program through the Eduaz platform. A video tutorial is available to assist with the registration process. More information is available here.

Promote accessibility and comfort

Elsewhere, the operating company is implementing several initiatives at Baku Stadium to create an inclusive atmosphere for the COP29 climate conference, and to ‘promote accessibility and comfort for all attendees’.

For the first time in COP history, sign language interpretation services will be available at the COP29 Plenary Hall. The Azerbaijan venue will also feature an audio induction system for individuals with hearing and speech impairments. Sign language interpreters will assist during sessions and panel discussions to ensure accessibility.

The venue design includes designated zones and rooms with contrasting colours to aid individuals with visual impairments. In addition, information boards, venue maps, and brochures will be produced in Braille to facilitate navigation throughout the venue.

To assist individuals with physical disabilities in moving throughout the venue, the operating company is installing ramps and lifts, along with designated parking spaces, accessible restrooms, and quiet rooms. Additionally, ‘green crossing’ zones will be established to enhance ease of access to the event venue. Read more here.
