Hotel group Hilton has announced it has made ‘measurable progress’ towards its 2030 sustainability goals, in its latest Travel with Purpose report.
In the report, the hospitality giant said that it has made ‘significant reductions’ in carbon emissions, water use and waste generation across its hotel portfolio, including a 50.9% reduction in emissions intensity at managed hotels, and a 36% reduction at franchised hotels, against a 2008 baseline.
Water intensity across the group has reduced by 37.1%, while landfill waste intensity is 64.7% lower, it added, enabling Hilton to surpass its 2030 waste reduction target four years ahead of schedule.
‘Meaningful, measurable progress’
“Through Travel with Purpose, we’re making meaningful, measurable progress across our people, our hotels and our communities – strengthening the experiences we deliver to guests while driving long-term value for our business,” commented Katherine Lugar, EVP, Corporate Affairs, and president, Hilton Global Foundation.
“From investing in our award-winning culture to advancing more sustainable stays and supporting communities around the world, this work reflects how purpose is embedded in how we compete, grow and lead.”
Hilton continues to integrate sustainability into new hotel developments, with the group highlighting the new Hilton Garden Inn Brussels Airport, which opened during 2025, as an example – the hotel uses geothermal heating and more than 600 solar panels to run on 100% renewable electricity.
Career development
Other achievements outlined in the report include the creation of over 686,000 learning and career development opportunities across its group, and reaching more than 2.5 million people through community programmes. Employees contributed over 1.8 million volunteer hours during the year, which included the distribution of millions of meals through partnerships and the Hilton Global Foundation.
The group has also maintained its commitment to science-based targets and international ISO standards, as well as supporting industry-wide initiatives including updated human trafficking prevention training developed with Protect All Children from Trafficking (PACT).
Hilton’s 2025 Travel with Purpose report outlines the environmental and social progress made by the group in the 144 countries and territories in which it operates, across more than 9,200 properties. Read more here.
