Sustainable trade body IDH is teaming up with the Forest Positive Coalition of Action of The Consumer Goods Forum to host a Climate Week seminar in New York on 25 September.
Entitled ‘Responding to Climate Disruption of Agriculture’, the seminar, taking place at the Harvard Club of New York City, will share practical examples of landscape-level action for climate resilience and land restoration, and how said actions can support reliable and inclusive production of commodities.
Moderated by Anna Bressanin, senior editor with the BBC, speakers will include Emily Kunen, senior director, Agriculture and Forests, PepsiCo; Kevin Rabinovitch, chief climate officer, Mars; Wanjira Mathai, Africa director, WRI; and Daan Wensing, CEO, IDH.
‘Significant supply disruptions’
‘This event occurs amidst significant supply disruptions due to climate change, already affecting key commodities such as palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and beef,’ the organisers said.
‘These disruptions are expected to increasingly influence market dynamics, severely impacting all stakeholders in the supply chain, including farmers, traders, brands, and retailers. To address these challenges, early investment in targeted company and supply chain resilience strategies is crucial. We will explore how adopting resilient production models at landscape level can help reduce supply and business risks.’
Bring stakeholders together
Over the past 15 years, IDH has sought to bring stakeholders together from across global value chains, to innovate and invest in solutions for sustainable and inclusive international trade.
Part of The Consumer Goods Forum, The Forest Positive Coalition of Action, meanwhile, seeks to drive collective, transformative change to remove deforestation, forest conversion, and degradation from key commodity supply chains and support forest-positive businesses.
