Indian hospitality firm Lemon Tree Hotels Limited (LTHL) has announced that all 41 of its company-owned hotels have now achieved green building certification.

The hotels were certified by the Indian Green Building Council, IGBC, part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), across a range of categories, including architecture and design, water conservation, energy efficiency, building materials, indoor environmental quality and innovation.

The New Delhi-based firm, which also operates brands such as Aurika Hotels & Resorts, Red Fox, Keys Prima, Keys Select, and Keys Lite, added that renewable energy usage across its operations has reached 50% as of the end of March this year.

In a statement, LTHL said that the achievement underscores its ‘long-standing commitment to responsible growth’, and reinforces its efforts to build a more sustainable future for India’s hospitality sector.

‘An inflection point’

“The hospitality industry is at an inflection point where sustainability must move beyond intent to measurable action at scale,” commented Neelendra Singh, managing director and CEO, Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd.

“Our journey towards a fully green-certified owned portfolio and increased reliance on renewable energy reflects a long-term, design-led approach to building future-ready hotels. This achievement demonstrates that large-scale portfolio transformation to green-certified assets is both viable and commercially scalable, redefining how hotel companies can approach growth, development and operations in an increasingly resource-constrained environment. It is also a testament to the collective commitment of our teams, who have embedded sustainability into every stage of design and operations.”

As it noted, all company-owned hotels developed since 2012 adhere to IGBC GREEN building standards, with two of its premises having received Platinum certification, 22 earning Gold certification, six holding Silver and 11 holdding Certified status.

‘Landmark achievement’

C Shekar Reddy, national chairman of the Indian Green Building Council, described LTHL’s announcement as a “landmark achievement for India‘s hospitality sector”, adding that it reflects the group’s long-term commitment to sustainability.

“By integrating IGBC’s green building principles right from the design stage, they have demonstrated how environmental responsibility can go hand in hand with operational efficiency, business resilience, and enhanced guest experience,” he said. “Such leadership sets a powerful benchmark for the industry and strengthens the growing role of green buildings in shaping a low-carbon, resource-efficient future for India.”
