Some 55 companies and organisations have submitted projects for the 2025 Sustainability Star award, of which ten will be granted a place in the conference programme of the Czech & Slovak Sustainability Summit, taking place on 10 April in Prague.
The ten successful initiatives will feature in the summit’s best practices section.
“After receiving 62 nominations last year, we expected to see a significant drop in the number of nominations this year,” commented Kateřina Osterrothová, program director of the Sustainability Summit and the secretary of the Scientific Council, the group of sustainability scientists charged with selecting the top candidates.
“We were thrilled to see that nearly as many companies and organisations had quality projects and chose to nominate them this year, as it shows that businesses and organisations have not slowed their efforts to implement sustainable practices.”
Project evaluation
The panel of fourteen scientists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, led by Professor Vladimír Kočí of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, will evaluate the projects, with selection criteria including demonstrable environmental or social impact, applicability to local markets, and the potential for replication by other organisations.
“The goal of the Sustainability Star award and the best practices section of the Sustainability Summit is the transfer of knowledge and inspiration so that sustainability can expand throughout the business sector and society as a whole,” Professor Kočí noted.
As well as featuring in the summit’s conference programme, winning projects will receive the Sustainability Star 2025 trophy, as well as take part in a communication campaign. All 55 nominees, meanwhile, will have the opportunity to present their projects in a poster gallery at the event.
Czech & Slovak Sustainability Summit
The third edition of the Czech & Slovak Sustainability Summit is set to be one of the largest gatherings of sustainability and ESG professionals in the Czech and Slovak Republics, taking place at the Cubex Centrum Praha conference centre.
The conference programme will begin with a morning session moderated by television personality Rey Koranteng, which will focus on the role of citizens in shaping sustainable policies, including a discussion on the European Green Deal and its implications for businesses.
Elsewhere, Ipsos will present exclusive research on public attitudes toward sustainability, followed by a panel discussion featuring business leaders and Czech Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík on how companies can best communicate their sustainability efforts.
The mid-afternoon programme will include three themed stages – The Earth Stage will cover topics such as decarbonisation, electromobility, and sustainable packaging; The Life Stage will focus on biodiversity and the social aspects of sustainability; and The Science Stage will provide a platform for researchers to present their latest findings.
‘Inspiration and networking’
“It is hard to fit so much inspiration and networking opportunities into one day, but we will give it our best shot,” commented Jeffrey Osterroth, managing partner of event organisers ATOZ Group. “In any case, we can guarantee that each participant will leave the summit with a head full of sustainable inspiration and a phone full of new contacts with fellow sustainability professionals – or a pocket full of business cards in the case of the old-school attendees.”
Registration for the Czech & Slovak Sustainability Summit 2025 is open, and more details can be found here.
