The 2024 European Greens Congress has got underway in Dublin, welcoming more than 400 delegates, leaders, and activists from Green parties across Europe.
According to the European Greens, the event will help continue the ‘fight for liberal democracy and climate’, and will also see the election of two new co-chairs and a committee.
A vote will also take place on the proposed inclusion of Serbia’s Green–Left Front (Zeleno–levi front) as a new member party, further expanding the network of Green movements across the continent.
Across the weekend
Hosted at the Convention Centre Dublin, the event is being co-organised by the Irish Green Party, and will see contributions from political leaders including Eamon Ryan, Ireland’s Minister for Environment, Climate, Communications and Transport; Pauline O’Reilly, Senator and Chair of the Irish Greens; and Róisín Garvey, Deputy Leader of the Irish Greens.
The congress, which runs from Friday to Sunday, will also welcome prominent voices such as Laurence Tubiana of the European Climate Foundation, Oxford professor Tarik Abou-Chadi, Pia Olsen Dyhr of Denmark’s Socialist People’s Party, and Angelo Bonelli of Italy’s Europa Verde, who will take part in Saturday’s plenary session, Looking Forward: The Foundations for a Green Future, emphasising the interplay of democratic values and environmental sustainability.
‘Over the course of the weekend, Green Party delegates, leaders and activists from across Europe will set the tone for the future of European Green politics,’ the European Greens said in a statement.
