SAF

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is an alternative to conventional jet fuel that is produced from renewable or waste-derived feedstocks, including used cooking oil, agricultural residues, municipal waste and synthetic fuels made using renewable electricity. SAF can be used in existing aircraft and airport infrastructure while significantly reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared with fossil-based aviation fuel, making it a key component of efforts to decarbonise the aviation sector.

SustainabilityOnline tracks the latest developments in SAF, including aviation decarbonisation, SAF production, regulatory updates, investment, low-carbon technologies and industry innovation. We explore how airlines, airports, fuel producers and policymakers are accelerating SAF adoption, scaling production capacity, strengthening supply chains and responding to evolving sustainability legislation. We also examine the role of SAF in net zero strategies, climate policy, energy transition and the future of sustainable air travel.

Related topics: Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), aviation decarbonisation, low-carbon aviation, net zero aviation, renewable fuels, biofuels, synthetic aviation fuels, e-fuels, aviation emissions, greenhouse gas emissions, climate policy, energy transition, sustainable transport, aviation innovation, ReFuelEU Aviation and corporate sustainability.
